What is the T-Bird Texts Program at the SUU Library?

Waiting for your textbook to be delivered? Sharing a textbook with a flaky classmate? Don’t want to purchase a textbook for a general education course? Southern Utah University’s T-Bird texts is the program for you.
Designed as a backup system for strenuous situations involving textbooks, T-Bird texts is a free textbook checkout resource for students run through the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.
The program allows students to check out certain general education course textbooks for a limited frame of time. T-Bird text materials remain on the library premises and are loaned out on a first come first serve basis. High-traffic general education courses have multiple textbooks available.
“Professors and librarians are here to help students succeed in whatever capacity that looks like,” said Professor Rosalyn Liljenquist, assistant professor of library media and director of T-Bird texts. “We want to give students the opportunities to learn and succeed no matter whether or not they can afford the textbook.”
The T-Bird texts program is run through the library circulation desk on the main floor. Students check out materials for an hour or two, depending on the text and the waitlist, with their SUU student t-card. Students can also call ahead to hold textbooks or be added to any waitlists before they come into the library. Texts are required to stay in the library during the checkout time.
Retired T-Bird texts are transferred to the main collection or to library book sales, as the program keeps up with the newest editions and most relevant titles for each course. Materials from the main collection can be checked out and removed from the library building.
