Scholarships Available

Note about departmental scholarships: Once you have declared your major, you should become eligible for departmental scholarships. Deadlines vary and range from early February to March. Contact your department chair for more information. Undocumented students and DACA recipients should ask their department chair if they are eligible; undocumented students and DACA recipients are welcome to contact Donielle Savoie at doniellesavoie@suu.edu if they have any concerns.

Criteria:

  • Must be Native American students with financial need
  • Provide 16 hours of community service.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors

  • Enrolled in minimum of 9 credit hours

  • Member of Utah Paiute Tribe (any Band)
  • Must have full time enrollment in graduate or undergraduate program
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0

Criteria:

  • Will be awarded to students who are in good academic standing with the University, who have demonstrated experience in or commitment to working with LGBTQ organizations or to promoting the needs to LGBTQ individuals. Students must also have financial need.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.0

This is a per semester grant to enhance diversity and to provide financial assistance for financially disadvantaged students at SUU. These grants are allocated to provide supplemental financial assistance for economically disadvantaged students at Southern Utah University. Priority will be given to full-time, undergraduate, first-degree-seeking students. The maximum award amount is generally $500. The award amount is based on individual circumstances.

General Requirements for the Grant:

  1. Must be a Utah resident and a U.S. or naturalized citizen, or certain undocumented/DACA students (see requirements below)
  2. Academic Standing/Financial Aid Eligibility
    a. Must be in good academic standing
    b. Cannot be on financial aid probation
    c. Academic and financial aid transcripts will be verified. Preference will be given to full-time students with financial need
  3. Academic Performance
    a. You must maintain a 2.5 GPA or greater
  4. Must be currently enrolled in 6+ credits
    a. Calculation is based on full-time enrollment; students enrolled part-time will receive a prorated amount.
    b. Academic and financial aid transcripts will be verified. Preference will be given to full-time students with financial need
  5. Must have submitted the FAFSA for the current academic year
    a. Undocumented/DACA students may complete the Federal Student Aid Estimator in place of the FAFSA application. These students must include a screenshot of their estimated EFC as part of their application.
  6. On a separate sheet of paper
    a. Submit a Personal Statement describing the following: your academic and/or vocational achievements, personal goals, and any barriers you have overcome to achieve your goals. Please be specific with any financial barriers you have. or are currently experiencing.
        i. Template of how to best write your Personal Statement

    b. Please provide a one page thank you letter addressed to the Utah State Legislators. Template of how to best write your Thank You Letter.
  7. Please print legibly and attach your typed personal statement and thank you letter.
