Jeff Lieberman An Interdisciplinary Approach to EducationThe Festival of Excellence Gala and Awards Ceremony will partner with SUU Convocations to feature Jeff Lieberman as the keynote speaker. Jeff Lieberman will be presenting “An Interdisciplinary Approach to Education” as an Eccles Visiting Scholar and a Festival of Excellence Keynote Speaker on Monday, April 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the SUU Hunter Conference Center. The event is free and open to the general public.

Jeff Lieberman, a respected host of Discovery Channel’s Time Warp, focuses his work in the arts of photography, music, sculpting and roboticism. He concentrates his efforts in helping people understand everyday events and actions by intermingling beauty with science.

Known for creating “technological sculptures,” Lieberman is well known for a particular sculpture entitled, “Absolute Quartet.” The sculpture incorporates the audience into a performance induced by a machine that propels small balls into the air. These balls land on various objects, creating a unique melody.

After having completed two bachelors of science and two master's degrees, Lieberman is currently working towards his doctorate at MIT’s Media Lab, studying how art and science can be united to bring people together.

Eccles Visiting Scholars are supported by a generous grant from the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation.  As an Eccles Scholar, Professor Lieberman will interact with students at the Festival of Excellence and give a workshop demonstrating the intersections of creativity and technology.
