A.P.E.X. Event Series: The 1491s, Live Comedy Performance

On Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., the renowned sketch comedy group, The 1491s, will be giving a live performance at SUU. The group is visiting SUU’s campus in celebration of Native American Week. This event will be hosted in The Great Hall on the 2nd floor of The Hunter Conference Center on SUU’s campus. This event will be free and open to the public.
As a sketch comedy group from the wooded lands of Minnesota and the buffalo grass of Oklahoma, the 1491s are a group of misfits full of high energy, some satire, and cynicism. Their name is a reference to the year 1491, the last year before the arrival of Christopher Columbus and widespread European colonization of the Americas began.
With members in Oklahoma, Minnesota and Montana, the group started by the desire to put funny videos on YouTube. From YouTube, the group has grown to perform in venues around the world, TEDx Talks, and on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and is currently in production for their first feature film. Their performance sketches offer satirical looks on current social issues and cultural trends as well as Native American life in the United States.
