“Sometimes musicians can inspire you just by their presence," said Dr. Lynn Vartan, director of A.P.E.X. Events. "Having traveled with Pete and knowing the magical sounds that come from Keenan musicianship, I know these two will truly inspire anyone they come into contact with. This will be a magical event."

SUU is privileged to be joined by these two accomplished musicians who come together to play
with a unique and passionate sound. The “Talking Strings” duo is not one to be missed.

Peter "Pete" Jacobson is not only a cellist, but a producer, songwriter-singer, chamber musician,
teacher, and father. He studied with Eleonore Schoenfeld at USC as well as at Cal Arts and the
San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 2013 he won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock
Alternative or Urban Album as a member of the group Quetzal. His solo cello can be heard in
film and television, including The Walking Dead, Motherland, The Twilight Zone.

Keenan Webster has had a deep love of music his entire life. He began his music studies with
Master Teachers from Africa and Cuba. Surrounded by a highly spiritual family, he has spent his
life focused on studies of music, religion and history. Keenan performs the 21 string kora (11
played by the left hand and 10 by the right), a large calabash cut in half and covered with cow
skin with a long, hardwood neck. Strings were traditionally made from thin strips of hide, for
example, antelope skin – now most strings are made from harp strings or nylon fishing line.

A.P.E.X. Events is SUU’s premier weekly lecture series, with speakers and presenters invited from all areas of the world. While on campus, guests are invited to interact with students and faculty in multiple ways, with opportunities to connect and network in vast areas of scholarship. All A.P.E.X. Events are free and open to the public.

This semester, A.P.E.X. Event presentations will also be streamed live, join the event virtually via Zoom.
