Serving the Southern Utah University community by inviting all to explore and experience the world-renowned landscapes of the beautiful southwest and beyond through the creation of meaningful experiences and adventures.

SUU Outdoors engages all of it's diverse student base by providing innovative, approachable and experiential-based opportunities to enhance our student's and community's well-being.

We are a partner resource for SUU Faculty and Staff, and aim to assist and enhance curriculum and programming by promoting an experiential-based experience for students and SUU Community members alike.

SUU Outdoors History

  • Challenge Course built over by football stadium.
  • Rental Shop starts in Sharwan Smith Student Center; rents a few tents, sleeping bags, snowshoes, and headlamps.
  • First SUU trip heads outside: hiking in Cedar Breaks.
  • Rock Climbing Wall is built in the PE Building.
  • Rental Shop moved to larger location in Student Center.
  • Many students are impacted by growing programming at SUU Outdoors to pursue the outdoors more.
  • SUU enters the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge and wins.
  • The Garage is added as a space for rental.
  • SUU enters the next Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge and handedly beats the other universities involved; solidifying SUU as the "Most Outdoorsy School in the Nation"
  • Basecamp in the Sharwan Smith Center is established as the HUB for SUU Outdoors.
  • The Rappel Station is built in the PE Building.
  • San Juan Rafting programs begins.
  • LEAP (Local Events, Activities, & Programming) begins.
  • Outdoor Education Series is revived.
